When you think about how to assess students what might be the
first thing that comes to mind.
Tests..
Projects..
The tools we use to assess these tasks often include a marking
scheme or a rubric.
But what if the tests and projects were simply the tools we used to
assess the skills students demonstrated.
And...the rubrics, learning goals, success criteria were not based
on the product produced by the skills demonstrated.
This would mean that the projects we designed and assigned and the
tests that we developed wouldn't need to be the same for each
student, nor would we need to make a new rubric for every iteration
of what our students made.
This is why I want you to look differently at assessment.
It's not the task or project that we make the rubric for it's the
skills.
